Built for a run that starts in the dark and ends in full sun

The real cost of a fixed tint is not the glare. It is the moment you take the glasses off. Push them up onto your forehead and you lose the UV cover, you lose the wind cover, and you have to think about them again — usually while climbing, usually with a hand you would rather keep swinging. A dawn start makes this worse, not better: leave at half past five and you spend the first twenty minutes in a lens that is too dark for the light you are actually in.

A photochromic lens removes the decision. It reacts to UV, so it sits light in the grey of early morning, deepens as the sun clears the horizon, and lifts again the moment your route turns into tree cover. You are not managing it, and you are not carrying a spare. The polarized filter works underneath all of that on a separate problem — flat reflected light bouncing up off wet road, off the surface of water, off car glass — which no tint level alone will fix.

The shield is one piece across both eyes, so there is no rim sitting in your lower field of view when you drop your head on a climb, and the brow bar carries all the structure above the eyeline. It goes on before you leave and comes off when you are home.
